Re: Nob Brown-mis-spelled dead Soldiers name in letter to fa
I just called, to say...
The thing is, him saying he 'meant no offence' by mis-spelling Jamie Janes' name has nothing to do with it. The fact he didn't bother to double check it, or have someone else check it is the bad bit. You'd think though, if your child DIED for their country, that if you were going to write a letter of condolence, you would make damn sure that you at least got their name right!
I have shit handwriting, doesn't mean I'm disrespectful

Yeah, bastard PM hand-writing a letter to the family of a fallen soldier. How dare he.

Give the poor man a break - he is going blind, has one eye and he can barely see the letter never mind spell correctly.
Gordon's eyesight is degrading quite fast now and he may go blind. Poor man.

And to take nothing away from his Mum's loss, she was so upset about the letter that she had to go right to The Sun with it?

I can imagine the size of Brown's in-tray. Perhaps some would prefer this understandably busy man to sign perfectly typed, perfectly spelled form letters? For all his faults, he's damned for taking the trouble to pen individual letters to the bereaved but would probably be damned much more if he didn't. I wonder how many on here still take the time to write several letters per day by hand?
In 1953 the UK Defence Budget was 11.3% of GDP. By 1966 it had been reduced to 6.6%. In 2011 it is hovering around 2%. Good job we're no longer expected to fight any wars, isn't it?

So you are saying it's 'bad' when Brown misspells his name, but acceptable when you do? I'm being a pedant, but you and all the hand-wringers aren't?

With the UK's wonderful H&S laws should he even be allowed out running with one eye blind and the other on it's way to joining it?

That's OK the close support officer has a piece of string around his knackers that he pulls when he wants him to change direction (it's the same bit of string Mandlebum uses when instructing him)
