Attention to detail being fairly key in the PM role. Let's hope that he doesn't make similar errors when considering details of a similar nature in future.

Easy mistake to make isn't it......???
No I am just lazy and cant be arsed to spell check things on ARRSE. If I was writing a letter of bereavement I would check it personally.
Mr Brown has a establishment under him, of which I am sure a person is paid to check and filter this correspondence.

Fallschirmjager,
not this callsign i agree 100%,
We all have our opinion of Brown but he would need to be a CNUT of the highest order not to have ment what he said in the letter. Just remember that when this war is over, the next time one of us slips up the sun will be back to slagging soldiers off as its always done "captian crumpet" and such like.
WE join the job and thats that!! if you dont agree or dont like it hand in your fukcing bedding.

My Bold.
Don't agree with you on that mate. She just lost her boy. She can say what she wants IMHO
It's The Sun at fault here. For cynically using a Mothers grief to try and shift some papers. Throbbers to the core.
It's the families VO that has dropped the ball here, I feel. Yes, she can say what she wants as a grieving mother who has lost her boy, but the VO should have stepped in and got Media Ops to get a grip of the Scum before they got their hooks in this deep. As a grieving mother, she won't be thinking straight.

My missis was saying much the same as you this morning. She has gone from genuine grief for her fallen son into the political arena. Brown got her son's name right and that is of paramount importance. The Mem Sahib also noted that she had recorded the conversation on her Blackberry something the combines wisdom of Arrse could not work out to do so that a member could tape his ex-mrs during telephone calls. She is being manipulated by the Sun and, worse still, she is putting Brown in a position where he cannot be candid with her because she is recording everything.
I feel for this woman but she is being cynically manipulated by an agenda-led Sun.
'The honesty and bravery of our fighting forces stands in stark contrast to the weasel words and dishonesty of their political masters'. Liam Fox Now with 'added irony'!
In 1953 the UK Defence Budget was 11.3% of GDP. By 1966 it had been reduced to 6.6%. In 2012 it is hovering around 2%. Good job we're no longer expected to fight any wars, isn't it?

Well lets just hope that if the One Eyed Porridge Wog has to send a note to PJHQ telling the to unleash our nuclear detergent he gets the targets name right…

Bob Piper nails it:
I agree with the tone of most bloggers yesterday. Gordon Brown did the honorable thing to send personal, handwritten letters to the relatives of those killed in Afghanistan. It's a small gesture, but I think it indicates that he does care, and actually, if it had not been for Mrs Janes in the Sun yesterday, people would not be aware that he took the time and trouble to do it. I can think of others in and around Downing Street in the past who would have made a good deal of publicity out of the gesture.
Having said that, knowing the PM's shocking handwriting, someone in Downing Street should be checking the things. Whilst the grammar and spelling are not that important, getting the lad's name wrong undoes a lot of the good work done by writing in the first place.
However... whatever impact Mrs Janes had yesterday, I can only imagine the slimy Murdoch journalists have done her no favours with this morning's story. Yesterday she was a wronged mother, grieving for her lost son and quite rightly upset by a letter that she considered to be an insult to his memory. Today, we are expected to believe that the grieving Mrs Janes was sitting by the telephone, tape recorder at the ready, in case the Prime Minister should happen to call to apologise. It looks like a clear piece of entrapment by the snakes at The Sun. The whole emphasis changes away from a woman who is clearly genuinely upset into a story of a set up by the Murdoch press who are exploiting the woman's grief for political purposes.
