Sorry but I'm going to bite. Please do not take this weasel as an example of what the rest of the RLC are like. His peers are out on the ground doing the job the same as everyone else in theatre. However I agree that he is letting everyone down.

It's already on a couple of people's blogs under my real name. I have nothing to hide on an issue like this - I might have only been a fair to middling soldier and a bit of a scrote to boot but I'm not a moral coward. Unlike some...

Re: An Open Letter to LCpl Joe Glenton
Makes me mad to see that cowardly twat. I am ex RLC (and RAOC before then), now MPGS and close enough to Abingdon to spit all over the idiot.
I very much doubt he would go down the Mucky Duck, or venture to stickies for fear of getting hammered all over the place.
The guy is an embarrasment to the RLC, the rank, the Army and to the country. Can't wait for his 5 minutes of fame to end, then he will realise what a dogs dick he has been.
I hope the guys at Abingdon give him a good kick in.
And, damn fine letter writing Wedge. :D

A brilliant piece of writing Wedge, I hope that it gets the credit that it deserves.
I watched the news earlier and I was disgusted at this individual, I hope, (although I know that he won't), gets the sentence that he deserves.Cry havoc and let slip the frogs of war!

Re: An Open Letter to LCpl Joe Glenton
Excellent letter. In short, if his conscience was bothering him that much, he could have put his notice in two years ago instead of going on the run. That way, he'd have left the Army long before any requirement to return to Afghanistan.
Or am I a meringue? In 1953 the UK Defence Budget was 11.3% of GDP. By 1966 it had been reduced to 6.6%. In 2011 it is hovering around 2%. Good job we're no longer expected to fight any wars, isn't it?

That's as maybe, but you're a better man than Glenton any day. Thanks for articulating so well what many people think. So,a sapper steps up to the crease with such style when so many of the rest of us can merely curse and seethe. Well done.

Very good letter Wedgey!
Changed my FB status to: 'LCpl' Joe Glenton, you do not speak for the average Tom - you are a coward and have let your muckers down big time!!! I for one, turn my back on you!
The harder the fighting and the longer the war, the more the infantry and in fact all the arms, lean on the Gunners - Field Marshal Montgomery.

Re: An Open Letter to LCpl Joe Glenton
Really excellent letter. I am wondering whether an editor might actually publish it as an article given its length. They get all sorts of experts to write specialist pieces and I feel sure that the editor of a quality publication would see its merits in its entirety.
Happy days are here again!
