Thanks mate, although I must say that while I might be able to put together a half-decent letter, I have the leadership skills of a small rodent and no self-discipline either.
Thanks to everyone else for your comments as well.
Why should that preclude you from "leadership"

Well done on that letter Wedge.

What a clown he is! Admitting that he had gone AWOL and also admitting he had refused to return to Afghan wont that make the DCM quicker as all the evidence is already in the public domain for the judge!

He makes a mockery of those who have died to protect this country (Or just our own)

Re: An Open Letter to LCpl Joe Glenton

Nothing wrong with being a Lance-jack, I used to be one (more than once) and I was a right little barrack-room lawyer, but young Joe isn't exactly qualified to pontificate on the legality of war any more than a girl on the checkout has the unique wisdom to decide the solution to the world recession. Same as Rose Gentle in some ways - she has been primed by a bunch of communist eejits and now thinks that her view holds a bit of gravitas. Instead of deserting into the arms of cowards, neo-communists and a band of general malcontents (wow I sound like a proper cliche machine there), Joe should have signed off and then made his stand.

If Iraq and Afghan are / were illegal, then I'd love to know what wars Joe thinks were legal. Gulf 1? The Cold War? Bosnia? Falklands? They were all imperial to some extent - but they all needed to be done. We don't fight for some abstract notion of good and evil, we fight for the side whom we have chosen. If we disagree with the strategic aims then commons sense directs that you leave to align yourself with someone else.

I hope this guy isn't still pulling in LCpl wages for the taxpayers' sakes.
"I firmly believe that we should not march into Baghdad. To occupy Iraq would instantly shatter our coalition, turning the whole Arab world against us and make a broken tyrant into a latter-day Arab hero. Assigning young soldiers to a fruitless hunt for a securely entrenched dictator and condemning them to fight in what would be an unwinnable urban guerrilla war." This letter shows we have young soldiers with the utmost qualities expected of a British Soldier who as we all took an oath which is clear, one of him is worth ten of a traitor oh but to still have the old rules.

I understand that Joe is going to stand tall in front of the old man next month, he will almost certanly get a dishonrable discharge from the British army, but i belive he will not be sent to pokey, this is because he has too many Civi suporters behind him that can, and will cause a riot over this matter.
The last thing Gordon wants is riots on the streets over this matter as it would embariss him. So enter M.I.5, to pay the man off to keep his mouth shut, and disapear!
Joe knows that he is on to a winner which ever way it go for him.
He proberbly worked it all out in stan!!
He went AWOL because he's a twat, nothing to do with illegal invasions that just an excuse to justify his actions.
I take it you've had the "honour" of serving along side this fine specimen?

How's about we hijack the next Millies and vote for him as JNCO of the year? Would love to see him try and look the likes of Tom Neathway in the eye at the awards ceremony!

    good post wedge35
I imagine he's a team of barristers and they'll not dare bully him.

My bold Jarrod......I don't think a regimental duty which causes someone to miss a social event is a new thing nor do I think it is bullying, but I understand your point

Excellent W.35 Just caught the person involved on T.V. hailed as The Voice of the Army 'Junior Soldiers',Couldn't help but feel that he will have an awfully long fall when the puppet strings that are currently hauling him so high are cut,and the S.W.P. etc move on to the next piece of mischief making!(O.D.V.S.N.M.)

Having accepted the Queen's shilling there comes a time when you must accept the fact that being a soldier imposes certain constraints.
Allegience is sworn to the Queen.
Not the government of the day.
    A marvellous letter.
    Well done Wedge. Outstanding!

Superb penmanship and well thought out 35 - -

Personally I think Glenton should be strung up by the balls.

As a former Sapper,I agree with all Wedge says. The Corps may have to bring back large parts of the RLC to our fold again,at least to instill backbone into some of their juniors. He's letting down everyone in the RLC and The Army.

An utterly unbelievable breach of discipline aidd by Channel 4, whom to my knowlegde seem to be the only TV channel to have aided a breach of military law.

It appears to me that todays outrageous 'event' is the result of a complete failure of leadership and power of those who weald military law and discipline. This disgrace of a person whould have been in custody and out of the service long ago having had the entire book thrown at him.

I would like to see the 'outting' the commanders who took the decision to sit on their collectie hands to ignore this problem hoping it will go away with his voluntary dischage - a decision he is clearly now using as a political platform, claiming the Queen's shilling driving most of our community to utter frustration.

This peron should be punished, stripped of rank, jailed and then disharged as the sorry shameful individual he continues to present imself as. Then we can see to te removal of those leaders who have allowed this situation to continue and cause collective embarassment.
One Army Recruiting - Stops just there
