Theres plenty of info about Army to Police pension, but nothing the other way around...

Any useful info would be appreciated.
You will have to ask the Police scheme for a transfer value and ask SPVA what it will buy in AFPS. Just asking does not commit you to the transfer.

If its any help, I went to leave the police and had a Commission secured(why did I listen to my wife and not take it) about 8 years ago when I had just under 5 years service,
I was told that would equate to about 7 years worth.

As an aside I read EScotias link and this bit throws me(as we are all in the same boat more or less):

For the majority of pension schemes the member's Normal Pension Age should be aligned to the State Pension Age (currently 65 and rising), but for the Armed Forces the Normal Pension Age should move from 55 to 60 in order to reflect the unique characteristics of their service.

Does this mean new entrants will still compete a 22 year career, retire at say 40( having secured their pension) if they were 18 on attesting, but not be able to claim it til 60?

My 30 is in when I'm 50 and I'm fucked if I'm working an extra 10 years in response or any other part.

Civ, that's exactly my point - up until last year I would have been out of the door with full pension at 50. I now have to work til I'm 60 to get it. I simply won't survive that long!

It's a big shite sandwich, I don't mind taking a bite, if I still get to go at 50. But like you, I'm fucked if I'm working another ten years of court on a rest day, canceled weekends and begging to be allowed annual leave.

PnGu -I'm in a pretty similar position to you. I'm looking at RAF regt, because you can commission up to 36yrs old. 24k a year for training (as a grad) and then 30k a year once trained. If you're clever enough to be plod, you'll be clever enough for IOT, it's more a question of character. Something to consider...

I'm in the same boat lads...

I had 15 years police service, D/Sgt, and took a career break, which I'm still on until Oct 2013.

To train to be...wait for it...a Vicar...

I'm finishing college next week and hoping to look into Army or Navy chaplaincy.

I won't be fully qualified for another couple of years though.

The pension thing was something I had wondered about...mine is frozen until I'm 60.

I loved the police when I joined (RUC)...in the end I couldn't wait to get away from it.

Feel sorry for those who are stuck there.
