I understand that the MOD are still talking to HMT. I will get an update tomorrow and let you know when they expect to issue a Framework Document.

I understand that the negotiations with HMT has been delayed because issues have arisen with the other public sector trades unions. We are expecting a DIN to go out setting out the Framework of the proposed change during the course of February. As soon as something is heard, I will flag it up here. Also, whether you are a member of the Forces Pension Society or not, keep an eye on our website ( The Forces Pension Society ).

FPS, Can you explain the MoD thinking behind taking a pension award which has been earned through service away from a GIP which is a compensation award? The way it appears is they are in effect taking away money owed rather than compensating for injury or loss of earning!

As I understand it is because the GIP is compensation for lost income and the pension is income which is not lost. The lump sum is for the injury/condition itself.

'MOD' and 'thinking' in the same sentence? Have you been at the sherry again?

Sorry to sound like a broken record but we will have to study the Framework Document, and that has not yet been issued. As soon as it is, it will be available on the Forces Pension Society website ( The Forces Pension Society ) and I will flag it up here.

Surely the pension is income based on time served; if you take that away from any compensation package then you have worked for only the wages part of your remuneration package pension being a supposedly non-contributory part of that?
