    Rockape (long time no speak).

Are you sure about not being able to claim both DLA and a WDP? I actually tried claiming DLA but was turned down. The assessment was a bit of a travesty to say the least and I would dearly like to meet that doctor again. As far as I remember (it was bloody aeons ago), I wasn't turned down because of the WDP.

I do know that certain allowances for a WDP cannot be claimed while being in receipt of DLA (Mobility Supplement for example). Reference the DLA being totally discounted, I'm not sure if this another one of those 'additions' but the Gov website states:

If you start to get Disability Living Allowance it might increase the amount of other benefits or credits you're entitled to, such as Income Support, Pension Credit, Housing Benefit, Council Tax Benefit, Working Tax Credit and Child Tax Credit.

Disability Living Allowance is normally ignored as income for working out these income-related benefits and credits.
Somewhat open to interpretation I would say.

    Greetings mistersoft.

I was notified this at the time of the award (1992), as they cancelled my DLA Mobility and DLA on my receipt of WDP & WPMS - thanks to your advice I have been in touch with DWP who have told me that this advice had been given to others also in error.

It seems that some of their advisors' were unsure and gave bad advice.

One can claim War Pension and DLA however one cannot claim WPMS and DLA Mobility Allowance

I will be receiving my claim form within 7-10 days.

Great news Rockape. I hope the application goes smoothly (and it should) and that you (and how many others?) receive what you (all) rightfully deserve.

Take care my friend and if I'm ever in the area, mine's a pint.

Fair one Alvin. We just needed a suitable vehicle and you were kind enough to provide one.

Rockape. Can I have Alvin's pint as well?

Re: why are the rates of all war pension allowences so low ?

I thought i would give my experiances of the system:

I am due to leave the Army after losing a leg on Operations (leaving of my own accord) i have been told im entilited to a GIP award of £19,000 a year tax free for life, i also claim DLA at the higher rate. Im pretty sure that if you were injuried due to service reasons ie, on Ops, the you will also be entiltied to a GIP upon leaving. I have been told and have it in writing from the SPVA that if a GIP can-not be taken into account as its compensation hense why its tax free.

Im by no means an expert but am willing to help anyone with regards to GIP,s etc as i have spent the last 6 months researching and actually went to the anual SPVA conference last month so im pretty upto speed.

    Regards

    Hi Mark,

Your experiences will probably be appreciated by many of the serving military members of the forum. I recently went through the Pre-05 WPS medical discharge process and gained much information from others on the forum. I have also been able to pass some of this on to others.

Good luck with your discharge and we look forward to hearing of your experiences of the SPVA.

    HIAB

Mark, does your GIP increase with inflation?
