Ian you will find many clues here on ARRSE - start out with the Infantry forum on the 'Infantry views on BOWMAN' thread (BOWMAN is the 2+ Billion pound walkie talkie that the MOD put out to tender at a friends boot sale). Read BedIns experiences and ask yourself would you like to depend on such a 'communication system'.... are you happy with how your tax money has been spent? Does not like Mountains, sand or water or anything else apparently. This only one example of many.....read 'Lions, Donkeys and Dinosaurs' by Lewis Page for some required background on why oh why its all a cake and arrse party - (foreword by Harold Evans, I am sure you have heard of him).

You don't need direct input just scan the forums and ask certain informed questions.

    No problem

As long as I know the real name of the person I am interviewing I am happy to protect that and nobody will make me reveal it.

what about the 'ghost' casualties in Iraq? are our troops in Iraq being forgotten about now that Afghanistan is on the news?

The problem is that if the government wants to get a whistleblower badly enough, they usually will. While I know that the Sarah Tisdall case was a long time ago and dealt with vastly different circumstances, it still makes interesting reading:
    Sarah Tisdall

If you want to leak something, it usually helps if you are a minister briefing against colleagues out of spite or for personal gain, and then you are pretty much in the clear to leak whatever you like.

If an anonymous source briefing proven information was good enough for Bernstein and Woodward, then it ought to be good enough for you...

I'm sure you would protect their identities, right up to the moment you found yourself next to Bubba in the showers on D block (hello lads!) for contempt...
