I assume that KAF has an RAA? Have any of you been in that area?

Feel free to PM me, instead of posting in the thread.

Good facilities, but I just remember being in shelters every time I was there. There was a high idf threat back in 06/ 07 not sure if it has changed

That was the cunt that is McCrystal. He got the Burger King, KFC & Subway shut down.

He was the pink fluffy knobrot that came up with 'couragous restraint'.

I think the fact that he got all the fast food places closed was the reason for his "departure"

That's the one. He also got HQ ISAF dry as well! Didn't bother us (Brits) as we were dry anyway but the rest of the nations were in uproar, particularly the boxheads and the civvy US contractors. He also insisted that we were at our desks seven days a week and absolutely no downtime whatsoever (not that we were taking the piss by having two days 'off' a week but we did have free afternoons). He even bawled out one of our branch US OF3s who had the temerity to be sitting on the deck of the Danish coffee shop having a coffee at 1030 one morning. What a Grade A twat, unbelievably unpopular and even the septics were openly criticising him for being completely out of touch with any troops, not just US.

I'm guessing all the fast food emporiums opened up again once he'd pissed off?

Fora - you bastard, you've just brought back memoriesof the Danish PX - I'd spent 2 years trying to forget that place.
Good old ISAF HQ - morale vacuum doesnt cover it. It was full of humourless Americans trying to singlehandlely write the powerpoint slide that could prove beyond any doubt that we had won the war so could all go home.
Add to this bored NATO civvies, a morale free Morale Welfare team headed up by a Belgian who had a shouting match at me when I refused to wipe down the marble floor on the gym (pointing out that that was a cleaners job) and a sauna which was mixed use on a Friday. Oh yes, also the deep joy of Supreme!

Anyway, KAF - well its a flat featureless hole in the middle of the desert where things never stop. Food is okay, very samey after 6 months. Utter morale vacuum in places, too much dust which gets in your pores, average living conditions, and some very switched on people, and others living out their time in the least painful way possible.

Could be worse places to be based, but plenty of better ones!
