To echo the sentiments of the poster above, I have just returned from Altberg and was amazed by the quality of both the service and product. Excellent throughout. Worth the 7 hour round trip Shocked

Sounds like my last trip to Altberg in March. Was worth it; 8 months down the line and now despise my Lowas, they feel like breeze blocks!

Wotcha. I'm off to somewhere hot and sandy very soon and I have been informed by the chaps handing over to us that the issue Lowa desert boots are a bit crap with tales of them shrinking when getting wet and even falling apart.

Now am I right in thinking the issued Lowa boots are the Elite Desert model or are they referring to a different boot? Also does anyone have any first hand experience to refute this as I really prefer Lowa to AltBerg?

I had both the Lowa and Meindl issue boots and would go for the meindl, they lasted me 4 months straight before the material on the inside started to tear around the heel

Sensesworkingovertime:
I have to go 2 sizes up to size 10 L from size 8 L because my feet are that wide! As a result the boots are far too long and have far far far too much empty space at the back towards the heel. Only so much space in the boot can be taken up with socks before your feet start to sweat and smell Wink
The guy at altberg who measured my feet and was pretty amazed at how wide my feet are compared to their length. When I tried on a test pair of boots they had (size 8.5 XXwide) I was shocked at how the sides of my feet didn't rub against the sides of the boot. It was a revelation at how awesomely nimble they felt; Lighter and much shorter than my issued boots. "F*cking hell!!" I thought; I could walk normally in a pair of boots!

Altberg boots FTW

And now I'm cursing the 8 week waiting list Evil or Very Mad

Couldn't you have just cut a toe off each side? Would've been better than the 8-week wait?

Seen this topic before somewhere

Only thing I can fault my Altbergs for is the soles.
They have split on both accross the ball of foot, seems they they dont like being in minus 30 then plus 25 then minus 30 then plus 25 repeat for 12 hr shift

Has anyone had a problem with pro-boots and the soles rotting apart? I've just had a second pair do this, loads of wear left but just crumbled/perished and useless. I can't imagine they can be re-soled, this happened with other boots? They were really old though.

Another vote for Altberg. Mega service at the factory with actual customer service, and excellent products. My Peacekeepers have done a fair few hard miles and are like slippers compared to the issued torture contraptions.

Yes had the heel section, crumbled on a pair and seen others with similar problems, shame as they were comfy as!

Depends what you want them for really. Can't comment on the whole range but I've known people who were very happy with there peacekeepers. I had a pair of sneekers and they were worth every penny. Light as a feather, was like wearing silver shadows round a CFT Wink

Downfall with the sneekers, used them training at Lydd when it was snowing last year, and the skin on the end of 2 toes went black and scabby from the cold and water so they offer no protection from the elements, but suppose it's my own fault for being thick enough to wear them and not the issue g-tex boots!

Peacekeepers are a good all rounder, warm enough in a British winter with decent socks but then not too hot for the summer or tabbing. Personally I prefer these over Lowa's by a big margin.

Sneakers are good for mincing about in during the warmer months however the ankle support isnt that great.
