Is this some kind of inverted wah?
I believe it's Sven's rather weak attempt at trying to imply that it was a Conservative government that introduced the idea. Now I've got no idea who did introduce the system, and whoever it was they were bloody idiots to do so, but even if it was a Conservative idea how long have Labour been in power now? Blaming the previous government after being in power for over a decade is just getting tired.

It was indeed the Tories.
I agree entirely that it should be scrapped and the government is remiss in not doing so.
Does anyone know current thinking of the CoS in this, what is current thinking - do those military men in charge of logistics think it is a good thing?
is that mister 'Big MAC' by any chance?
the wa*nker who was reactivating deactivated MAC10's he was getting as job lotts from the states?
i hope that fu*ker lives out the rest of his days in screaming agony and misery. all the cancers in the world at once is still to good an end for the dispicable cn*t.

I remember that case. They did a Crimewatch programme, showing how they caught him. He was a full Registered Firearms Dealer and custom gunsmith. Although he had a good living from his legitimate business, he got his kicks selling 'raincoats' (reactivated Mac-10s) to Yardies on the side. He was proved to have sold most of the Mac-10s in circulation when they matched the toolmarks on the recovered silencers to a pin spanner found in his workshop.
I hope that he rots inside for a long time.

If only I had the MOD rights to delete that crap...
Whilst I have a chance I would just like to point something out.
The post above clearly breaks site rules, despite the fact that in demonstrates a few things about the poster let me explain to you what posting crap like that means.
1. It risks a journo running over this comment and labeling arrse, and by default most members of the armed forces as (a) racist or (b) stupid. Most likely the second, which I suppose is better than the 1st. So thanks for tarring us all with that brush.
2. I take time out of my highly stressful career to now have to get in contact with one of several of about five people to get that particular text deleted. This really means that it takes ten minutes of my time, that means I have to work 10 minutes more today than I would do normally. That in turn means I might get home 10 - 30 minutes later tonight (train dependent). That means that instead of the 6.30 - 8pm time I get to spend with my 2 and 4 year old sons, I have only 60-80 minutes left. Essentially stealing up to a third of my evening with my kids. So thanks for that. Would you like to see a picture of my 4 year old crying because he has to go to bed and hasn't had a chance to tell me everything that he did at playschool? You fkcing s***.
3. multiply 2 above and times it any other MOD that reads it. Multiply that by the number of forums that the MODS are reading and checking and so on and you begin to get an idea of the volume of work one stupid comment like this makes for the voluneteers that facilitate this site for you to rant on.
4. In addition users that create ID's and run around posting drivel soon get banned, e.g. all that white knight crap. However a user such as you, with 92 posts, clearly does have soemthing to contribute to the site, but in one swoop you set yourself up for banning or not, in order to be fair, MODS and CO's will review your posts and take a view. So even more work. Cheers.
5. For clarity, MODS can usually only edit their own forums.]

One of the drivers of the salami slicing and hollowing out of our capability has IMHO been the Cold War. When the whole plan was to sit and wait for the 3 Shock Army no one expected the war to last more than 14 days; by which time either we would have won, or we would have nuked them. This cosy scenario fitted neatly with the Treasury mindset as they were able to sell of absolutely everything and reduce spares and maintenance to virtually zero. I do not think it has actually occured to anybody in the MOD that things like machine guns and vehicles are rapidly wasting assets in war and need frequent repair and replacement. The scandal is not that we are running out now. The scandal is that the pin stripes in Whitehall did not see it coming 18 months ago.

Its another disgrace by a Government who could not care less, for the Forces. They wont spend cash on the wars they orchestrated, but they will spend on Africa. That piece of shite Broon has declared that the UK will buy more than 20,000,000 mossy nets for Africa, at a cost of $10 each (heard it on radio 2). Thats my f**king taxes I couldn't give a shoite for Africa, or Africans. Spend where its needed on Defence, if not defence the bloody aged. But dont give my money to Africa, while I'm on one send the f**kers who live here back.
