Utterly Butterly, Dozy ... "Say no more, say no more ... nudge, nudge ... "
Good stuff! Some of the RBL branches are really suffering with an aging membership, so volunteering really does help them out.
Done although I'm not a member and the local club has been sold!!!!!
I hope they can still use me?
It's my understanding that they'll put you in touch with the person co-ordinating the collecting for your area, whether there's a local RBL or not. If you don't hear anything within a couple of weeks, post here and I'm sure we'll be able to hook you up with a branch in your general area.

I have the phone number of every County Office in England & Wales.
RAM, drop oldbaldy a PM and ask him to hook you up directly with someone in your area. Where there's a will there's a way, and all that...
We're now recruiting Poppy People for the Greater London area for the 2009 appeal - if you want to help, please PM me and I'll provide you with details.

All I can say is, well done to many of you.I wish others would switch on to the use of adults not just cadets as collectors. I have asked, offered, whinged and tried every trick in the book to get on the streets to collect. I offered my services for the whole week to be told they were not required, that only the cadets go out and only on the one Saturday. Not just in one collection area but in two. I was thoroughly disappointed and disgusted. I finally had to pull the oldest trick in the book and ask in front of someone from Head office of Poppyscotland. Even then the co-ordinator couldn't quite get the idea that I wanted to stand on the streets and collect and that I would have happily have done it every day this week.Due to the organiser for my local area being so set in his ways and refusing to use anyone but cadets, I will not be collecting in my home area. An area where I am well known and could have been even more persuasive at making people part with their money but I will use my smile and charm to good use where i will be
So if there are any co-ordinators out there having a read DONT TURN DOWN VOLUNTEERS. It doesn't have to be just cadets, why on earth turn down adults who want to collect. Use all resources available people!

They are apparently in need of organisers for certain areas , which they have listed on their site.

RBL Clubs & RBL branches are are not the same thing, although they usually go hand in hand. Quite often there will be a branch in a village or a town with no club, they just meet elsewhere. If in doubt about volunteering just register or you could look up your County Office & they will direct you to where help is needed in your county.
The same applies in Scotland with poppyscotland.

I have volunteered for the last two years now and not heard anything from those that organise collections. Last year they did ask for my phone number but then heard nothing else at all. If I wasnt needed or they had enough collectors all they had to do was say so.

Big-up the old dear who was collecting in the car park at the Langham Food Fair in Yorkshire in about May this year. We got the full-on "What I did in the war" so she must have been 80 or 90.

The honk for peace old lady in Bristol is always worth a chat too, she lost her husband in the War and has been a campainer every since, in summer she stands at the cross roads by the hipodrome with a honk for peace sign on and does a bit of poppy collecting in winter
