Lets let some sanity prevail here

Pitty sanity didn't prevail when the DIN was being drafted!

Quote:
- firstly my reading of the media contact part is that it applies to us only when we seek to contact the media and represent ourselves as a serving individual by name. This is no different to the previous situation where we not supposed to handle media outside of DNews remit.

It also mentions when taking part in opinion polls and surveys, these are often anominous. Basically the DIN is saying "SShhh" about anything concerning "Defence".

Quote:
I think a quick FOI enquiry to MOD asking whether serving personnel are allowed to use ARRSE will quickly sort this one out.
Weren't the rules on FOI tightened recently in the name of security? I remember the FOI no longer applys to queries reference MP's, I remember something about the MOD too, perhaps I'm wrong but wouldnt be surprised!

Every one should write in with an application so that they can talk to their mother, as she is a member of the public talking to her is banned. After 4000 applications in a week they will get the message.

It is also another new government rule that is unaffordable (it is also uninforceable).

The good old union method of working to the rules will show it to be a stupid rule. Next time an MP turns up and asks you a question, tell them you do not have written authority to answer there questions, work to rule of the law, it gets them every time.

Nah.... the corporals and above will get shafted withextras and teose below will get Section 69'd. Prejudice to the good order of military discipline etc.

Has anyone got this DIN in full? Only I can't access it until I get on to DII , and then I can't get onto Arrse , as then I would be under Military law.

You see my quandry?

Who the bloody hell writes these things? No, I don't think it was an SO1 , this has political apparatchik written all over it.

If every one gets extras then it has no effect. If the troops get sect 69 ask for CM and or employ a civie solicitor to represent you. See how long it will last when the paper chain starts to expand and becomes the news storie.

edited to get it right

Going only a little off topic..

Parliamentary Select Committee on Defence
Third Report
15 ROLE OF THE MEDIA

www.publications.parli...19.htm#a94

15 ROLE OF THE MEDIA

"The Director General Corporate Communications, Mr Tony Pawson, told us that the main aims of the media strategy were to be as open as possible and to meet the practical needs of the media in terms of substance and timeliness."

The article on the link is well worth while, though it did give me more than a shudder that the aim is to control the media rather than inform.

The daily "cross whitehall media briefings" bit also has a hint of the sinister and spin about it.

LOL Well seems that I'm on the other side of the fence, I've got it on my screen and if I post it here then I'll be breaking some other rule.

But here is the link for when you get on DII

Why are you invoving a middleman? I thought standard form was to get the wife to write to the Telegraph and the Mail?

Or has that changed now, as you can't discuss Defence matters with 'members of the public'

Oh those fiends.........

Have sent it to the BBC since it's in the public forum. Just hope I'm not landing someone in the smelly stuff.

Will I be able to discuss with my wife when my next deployment is? She might get hacked off if I just bugger off to Afghanistan in the middle of the night.

it's a defence matter... and she is a member of the public. If she knows anything at all - she must be silenced.

Harsh but fair.

No, she'll be fine.

I'll just come round a bit earlier than I do normally. Very Happy
