Check your PM's mate
He looks like a Grenadier not a RM to me. Either way he has the "couldn't give a fuck" ally look.

His name is widely known, so how can his photo 'endanger' him? There's a photo of Oz THEM in Afg with pixelated;
Faces (understandable)
Rifle suppressor (er...why?)
Radio antenna (Terry doesn't know we've got radios?)
and my favourite...
Stencilling on .50 ammo liner! FFS!

Desert battledress w/cut-off sleeves, Don Johnson designer stubble, Dunkirk helmet for old sweat status, captured weapon, and DSC as a warry motif.
Braw!
The Eyeties weren't exactly frugal when it came to handing out awards, but the only one that matches is the Albanian medal - trophy from Op COMPASS?
It does look a bit misshapen for a DSC, and the rather salty-looking subject is hardly occifer material especially for the period. That said, DSCs were open to ORs and matelots from late 1939 I think.
It is, nevertheless, a fûcking ace picture.

WW1 Alliness?....
Grenadier Guards RSM
Employing a bit of Google Fu I found this on a WW1 forum:
"James Edward Parkin. Born 1/9/1878, Derby. Enlisted in the Grenadier Guards on 18/11/1895. Posted 1st Battalion. Lance Corporal, 21/12/1896. To Gibraltar, September 1897. Subsequently served in the Nile Expedition, Sudan (Queen's Sudan Medal & Khedive's Medal with clasp 'Khartoum'). NCO (Drill Sergeant) in charge of the Bearer Party at Edward VII's Funeral, 1910 (Royal Victorian Medal). Promoted RSM, May 1912. To France with 1st Battalion, October 1914. MiD on 20/11/1914. Transferred to RFC, August 1915 and commissioned Lieutenant QM. Created MBE, June 1918. Retired as Wing Commander, 1924. Recalled 1940 and served as Adjutant at RAF Uxbridge. Retired May 1945. Died 1967."

You are correct - I mis-identified the cap-badge, whilst ignoring the Guards' sized rank badge! I shall now beat myself with some nettles..

Sensible wallah, just like my GGF ... start in the Guards (Scots in his case) and finish in the RAF.

Sorry, Ugly, I just happened across it when transferring stuff from a (very) old hard drive. It is obviously North Africa, and it is a Dunkirk helmet - that much I remember from the description.
If my grandfather (RAF Int 1940, debriefed downed aircrew & helped draft interrogation for Axis, jnr liaison with Army Int., North Africa 1941-1943) hadn't died last Oct I could have emailed and asked him!

Their trews seem to have open sections just below the kneecaps* like those seen on fast jet aircrew flight suits. What's that about?
