Appear to hate the EU/single currency/Brussels + Strasbourg/Whole EU zone as much as I do.
They don't. Cameron's been Questioning whether there should be a referendum...
Plus, they're not offering to pull out of the EU until it's actually democratic...

Thatcher did see the problem with the big nationalised industries and in my opinion was bang on to get rid!!!
So that no-one could afford public transport anymore? So the public had no say in how they were run and simply had to bend to conglomerate will? We're supposed to be democratic, not plutocratic...
They were bang on to get rid on nationalisation of public transport if you were a car salesman...

Here We Go
Reuters and the BBC are reporting that EU leaders have agreed a deal whereby Vaclav Klaus can ratify the Lisbon Treaty!
So what now Mr. Cameron?

If you had the right connections, bottle green phones were also available.
A minor example of how backward Britain was in the 1970's. As a nipper I used to be awe struck by American TV shows like Rockford Files and Quincy because they had push-button telephones! I had never seen a phone without a rotary dial and it would take another 10 or 15 years before you could get them in Britain.
Another personal experiance, on my first day of full-time employment I was working with a typical 1970's throwback. At the end of the day, he physically threatened me for "working too quickly"! Considering this was my first day and I didn't have a clue what I was doing, I couldn't have been working slower. But, of course, it was showing him up, as I didn't take a two hour lunch break, three half hour breaks during the rest of the day and didn't spend half my time chatting to other people.
It would be wrong to write off the seventies as some sort of technological void.
Probably the greatest civil engineering project ever undertaken, the extraction of North Sea oil began in earnest in the 70s. Incidentally, under the previous Tory government, licences to exploit North Sea oil had been given to oil companies without provision for any of the oil to be directed to meet UK needs. Tony Benn’s response was to set up the British National Oil Corporation, a state-owned enterprise, to ensure that the country would derive maximum benefit from the development of new oilfields and to press for a North Sea oil development fund. Benn wanted oil revenues to be ring-fenced for Britain’s industrial regeneration and not used to finance unemployment benefits or short-term tax cuts.
The Apple iPhone and iPod wouldn't be here if it was not for a bunch of 1970s British boffins and their innovative "transputer" technology, sponsored by the Labour government of PM Harold Wilson.
Concorde came into service, largely as a result of the support given to the project by the then Technology Secretary, Tony Benn.

Only in the "common Market" not the US of E
Hmmm...
Preamble to the Treaty of Rome, 1957, states:
The founding signatories are:
1. "Determined to lay the foundations of an ever closer union among the peoples of Europe."
and...
2. "Resolved to ensure the economic & social progress of their countries by common action to eliminate the barriers which divide Europe." - including...
3. commitment to creation of a customs union by 1970 - NB shades of a similar union created among the German states mid C19th as an essential precondition of political union under Prussian leadership in 1871.
Don't think there was ever any serious doubt about where the Treaty of Rome was headed; the long term strategic aim was to create a US of Europe.
Heath knew this - as he unequivocally stated to me on more than one occasion.
This was never disguised from the British people, but safe in the knowledge that few would actually read the T of Rome, Heath & Co pressed ahead without drawing the public's attention to it either! The assumption was that everything would be so poptastic; the benefits so overwhelming, that few would care, & when the time came, most would gladly accept the inevitable economic & political union...
Maybe Heath was right...?!
Possibly, one day, historians will judge the Conservatives' greatest achievement of the later C20th to have been taking the UK "into Europe"?!
Certainly, in fairness, it's easy to understand why so many Europhiles find British equivocation/ ambivalence re "The EU Project" puzzling, frustrating, and downright galling.

I'm certainly not righting off British innovation in the 1970's or at any other time. The problem is we were never good at exploiting that technology. The GPO boffins were world leaders. It was a GPO techie that designed and built, arguably, the world's first programmable computer (depending on how you define what a computer is). However, those GPO innovations did not filter down to their customers. In the 1970’s we had an out dated Telco and where were the British IBMs and Microsoft? The closest we came to it was Sinclair, a tiny PC using US-developed technology.
Why aren't the iPhones and iPods being designed and manufactured in Britain today?
The same with other technology, we developed television, the magnetron, silver halide photography but where are the great British-built TV brands, or microwave ovens or, in the past, photographic film manufacturers?
It’s innovation that kept this country’s head above water, especially in the 1940’s and 1970’s but what about in 2010?

Come to Germany. Here, we have to pay when we take a bycicle or dog on any public transport. This can actually double your fare and is rigidly enforced! Funnily enough (I've stated this elsewhere), train companies in England also have this in their Bye Laws, but choose not to enforce it.

What colour is the sky on your planet?
Our forces and those of our allies won these battles not politicians.
The allies bit is important because going forward having Latvian neo Nazi's as our sole European allies might make future conflicts a bit difficult.
See below
Winning the Falklands - After failing to prevent it and nearly losing at Goose Green by warning the Argies, because Maggie wanted a good news story to distract from the losses in San Carlos caused by her governments under investment in the Navy.
Winning The Second World War - with the aid of a National Government and several allies.
Winning South Africa 1901 - After losing it for first 18 months and only by using policies the nazi's would have found disgusting.
Winning the Battle of Waterloo - Ok but with the help of allies who outnumbered our troops 3 to 1.
Winning the Battle of Trafalgar - Ok but with a Navy built by previous non tory governments.
Among the main ones...
Labour's military record is dire. The only thing they've really done is got us fucked in Iraq and Afghanistan, ...except help win World War 2, intervening in Korea, supporting intervention in former Yugoslavia and ending genocide in Seirra Leone.

Not sold us out to Europe.
Not sold us out to the US.
Not allowed immigration to go out of control.
Not allowed PC to get out of control.
Not sold of our gold reserves to fill their own pockets.
Not brought the country to its knees.
Not gotten us involved in needless costly wars.
The list is endless.
I think that the original question that prompted the OP to start this thread is much more relevant.
What a load of shite you talk
I am not sure why the OP mentioned unemployed, officuial unemployment figures are nearing 3 million....I would like to know the real figure....it is probably double that knowing the lies that Labour tell.
