Unlike other FR Regts, HCR has 3 Sabre Squadrons (A, C and D) and 1 Command and Support (C&S) Sqn as well as an HQ Sqn. With the exception of D Sqn, the remainder of the Regt is part of 11 Light Brigade. D Sqn is attached to 16 Air Assault Brigade and deploys with the Brigade as an independent sqn. Some of the Sqn has passed P-Company, a few are also jump qualified, though few remain in date. You don't have to be in D Sqn to apply for P-Company and all ranks are encouraged to attempt the course if they wish.
Is there a difference between D Sqn and the other Sqns in HCR? Apart from wearing different coloured berets, not really now that each Squadron has had their fair share of recent deployments. It is worth mentioning that D Sqn has had a good deal of operational experience with 16 Air Assault Brigade (Kosovo, Iraq, Afghanistan x2) and has repeatedly had a strong showing in the Operational Honours and Awards list: Telic 1 (Iraq) 1 GC, 1 CGC, 1 DSO, 1 MC and 2 MiD, not bad considering this was just one sqn. Similarly Herrick 4 (Afghanistan) 1 CGC, 1 MC.
I hope this helps

Too big and heavy, the Brit AO is pretty big and you just cannot drive CR2's around the gaff. We dont need them either.

HCavHopeful, I'm afraid that you cannot usually choose between Squadrons at HCR. You will get sent to where the manning requirement lies. At HCMR there are 3 Squadrons, one Life Guards, one RHG/D and HQ Sqn. Depending on whether you end up as a LG or RHG/D will decide which sqn you join.
