I know others who have at least 3 medals (all issued),that have never done a tour or fired a shot in anger.

What 3 medals are those then?

Northern Ireland (cushty residential tour in slipper city), LS&GC, QGJM? Plus the ACSM if the individual does two residentials back to back.

Hmmm. Not all residential tours in 'Slipper City' were 'cushty' you know.

Nobody said they were ALL cushty, just some were, for the select lucky few.

OK - you could crack a SJM, an LS&GC and a GJM with no tours at all. But you'd have to be quite old to be serving now.

The reason i said about the 3 medals was because i was at a parade last year & the guy wearing them, who i have known for many years,is an ACF instructor.
He told me that he actually felt embarressed about them when standing near people who had less medals, but who had them for op tours.
I think they felt worthless to him.

He was lucky to get a Silver Jubilee Medal aswell wasn't he?

Or are you allowed to wear it if you qualified but just weren't issued it like so many?

I believe you can have an OBE and an MBE if one is civil division and the other is military division. I have tried to find 'evidence' of this but I can't and I may be confusing it with the rules that applied to BEM's awarded for bravery.

There are blokes with 8 medals or more who have never fired a shot in anger. Doesn't mean they haven't earnt them. I suppose it depends on what line of work they are in.

Absolutely - what about an EOD AT expert who spends his tours walking the long walk but doesn't necessarily spend a lot of time with a bayonet charging enemy trenches? Or the RLC driver in a Helmand convoy, or the Siggy EW guys and countless other CEG's / jobs? It's a big jigsaw and everyone has a part.

MBE,OBE,QSJM,QGJM,LS&GC

Is the anyone out there who owns both QSJM and QGJM?

There certainly isn’t anyone who owns an MBE & OBE or if it was written in the correct order of precedence OBE & MBE

I'll bet there are - you just give up the MBE if you get an OBE and move up the 'order' don't you? You certainly wouldn't put MBE, OBE after your name. Or even OBE, MBE, or any other random order of O,B.E and M.

You’ve just answered your own question Wink

I didn't ask a question - I thought I was trying to answer one...........

BEM although part of the order was a different award and therefore you can indeed hold a BEM and MBE.

KBE, CBE, OBE & MBE are, in the simplest terms ranks and you can not hold two ranks at once.

There are no separate post nominals for the civilian and military division i.e. OBE(M), however the military ribbon differs from the civil one with a pearl stripe running down the centre.

Incidentally Op military awards in the Order of the British Empire Division used to be signified by some sort of a leaf of rosette to distinguish them from normal military awards.

This is bound to get messy. He said, I said, you said………

I said no one owns an MBE & OBE, you said “I bet there are”. You then said, “You just give up the MBE if you get an OBE”. That is correct, if you get promoted in the order you are required to return your ‘lesser’ medal.

Therefore you cannot hold an MBE and OBE at the same time.

See, clear as mud Wink

They could always buy bling and wear it - just like you did with a self-bought blingy QGJM.

Oh look ... 5A still stalking me ... I have already PM'd you to apologise ... I swear I didn't know they were your mother and daughter.

Now, as you are referring to comments I made quite some time ago perhaps I said things then in reaction to other comments regarding what I did/didn't buy or indeed wear.

But before you attempt to out me as a walt ... this was me on Armed Forces Day:

... and at the 33 EOD Regt Freedom parade ...

you have indeed dragged yourself out of the 70's but sadly have broken down in the 80's

I recommend listening to Yazz and the Plastic Population 'The only way is up' and purchasing a shell suit...

This will enable you to listen to cool tunes whilst looking ally as you marvel at the Army's new High Leg Boots and Tupperware Helmet..

Got to agree with you there, I have seven gongs plus a number '2' on my Bosnia gong, I never fired a shot in anger, but I there are a multitude of people still alive (can still see, have their limbs etc..) thanks to my job and those who I work with. Surgical teams are for winners!
