But your medals are in the wrong order though K13! ACSM should be after the Nato....oops

Wink MM

My ACSM was awarded for multiple tours of NI (1995/1996?) before I went to Kosovo in 1999 Cool

Thats irrelevant K13, the ACSM is classed as a long service medal and the NATO as a Campaign medal, the order of wear is quite clear, should be GSM, NATO, ACSM, LSGC

Smile Smile Smile Smile Smile

MM

We could always bet a tenner for Hols 4 Heroes on it if you like?????

Or I could just say fcuk it ... I'm a strawb!!! Wink

Anyway ... get back on thread and suggest some medals of the future!

Personally I think that the fact that he has earned his medals, and is a veteran means he can say "Stuff it, I'll wear my medals in whatever order I see fit..."

Of course he can, but perhaps he might not have been aware and might have wanted to wear them the correct way.

Obviously some people don't like to be corrected......... OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHH!

How about an 'I've been on ARRSE and never upset anyone medal' will be rarer than the VC ! Razz Razz Razz

Closet_Jibber:

The ACSM will definately start clocking up names on its list of winners.

It is harder than ever to qualify for the ACSM now. A soldier would have to complete 7 tours of Afghanistan. 2 year NI tours are a thing of the past.

I personally think, all service personel should be awarded a "I ate in the cookhouse and survived medal" for one.

Also maybe

I made it through the SINBIN/Gag and puke or any combo of BATUS medal

Or the nightowls in the shot medal

That list could go on and on

An ARRSE Crawl medal? criteria being, slug and or Jarrod have to be in attendence, and you get an oak leaf if Jar fills your socks.

What about a "Berlin" medal for anyone who served during the time of the wall being up?

To be honest, the joke list could run forever

I just hope we never follow the septics and go for a wounded in action one (PH) the new EM is a nice idea and a fitting reward for the price it is to win, but it should stop there IMHO

K13,

Without wishing to be a pain in your arse, the qualifying criteria for the ACSM is 1080 days (IIRC) - it certainly was when I got mine.

Even if your 'multiple tours of NI (1995/1996?)' were so multiple that they were constant, you would still be 360-odd days short.

Have I missed something?

What bling ... 4 medals awarded and the only bling is badges ... a RBL poppy pin, a H4H pin, a BLESMA badge an a Veterans badge; both the former I am entitled to wear.

So you lied on this thread then?

k13eod:
By the way, I have one commemorative that I wear with my four issued. Thats the Queens Golden Jubilee Commemorative. I, like many others, was furious that we were not entitled to it. Quarter of century service in the reign of the Queen (half her reign) and not even considered yet they gave it to adult cadets and prison officers ... and butlers at the Palace! It is actually the only commemorative authorised to have a portrait of the Queen and has been 'unofficially' sanctioned by the Queens Chamberlain.

Did you buy your ACSM too?

5A can't believe you are lording it over a QGJM. That's very sad.

Bravo Bravo, I hope there is going to be no tears from you when 5A starts digging in. Especially as you have entered a thread concerning medals.

Still, I suppose searching through old threads is a great way to spend an afternoon ... far better than earning a living. Obviously my earlier comments directed to you in THIS thread were wasted.

No need to buy an ACSM ...

4 month tour 1977
4 month tour 1979
Resident posting 1980 - 1982
4 month tour 1986
Resident posting 1992 - 1994

Hope that helps ... sorry I couldn't be more helpful by biting ... perhaps you should go back to stalking those that give a fcuk about your comments.

K, dont bite to appease the wnkers mate, anyone who knows you, knows for a fact you are further from being a walt, than they could imagine.

Remember a convo we had about walts wearing medals on the SGD crawl?

Stick with that thought and ignore the baiters.(not a typo)

Dont forget to give me a call when you want the other thing sorting out....

Getting back to the original question posed in this thread about what new medals there might be in the future I think there should be a service medal that most people who serve could expect to receive along the lines of the Canadian Decoration (CD). I think it is a bit 'unbalanced' that reservist get a the Volunteer Reserve Service Medal (VRSM) after 10 years but the LSGC takes 15 years and has a GC element and there is no medal for regular officers.

I would probably go for a medal after 5 years and bars every 5 years with different ribbons for different services and regular and reserve. With the option to trade medals and bars for LSGC.

The reason I would go for 5 years rather than 10 is so that the majority of people who serve would qualify.

It was not my idea but how about a 'diamond rosette' or bar on the QGJM instead of a Diamond Jubilee Medal or even better real diamonds in a stud?

I would not rule out being involved in Disaster Relief Operations some of which could be sufficiently robust to merit medals. Think future Rwanda type Ops.

When I can be arrsed to get excited about medals, my shit is gripped by the fact that TA wallahs get a very smart medal and a post nominal for three gallons of unleaded petrol, two packs of weetabix and five weekends of pissing it up in some dingy, seedy little TAC (or, indeed, completing several hairy-arsed op tours), whereas those of us whose weekends are regarded as precious time to be spent with family or on the lash, get only a crappy little vets badge, bad knees, gout, piles and absolutely no recognition whatsoever.

Unhand your excrement: the post nominal (TD) was canned by John Major (egged on by some short sighted regular officers who saw the opportunity to put the boot in).

The VRSM, which requires you to have got your bounty for 9 years out of ten, carries no post nominals.

I was joking about the real diamond - although anyone who wants to give me a diamond is welcome to but I do like the idea of a rossette or bar commemorating the Diamond Jubilee rather than a new medal for those who already have the QGJM. I agree with TB about the VRSM which is why I proposed a service medal for all.
