Posted: Mon Nov 23, 2009 11:26 pm Author: secret_squirrel1989 youll get to put down a list of 3 preferences in order, usually ur careers advisor will ask u why those regiments, and same at later stages of selection. its good to know some of the regiments history and have a better answer than "cuz they got shooty stuff." altho because infantry are now the only service actively recruiting i would say u souldnt have much trouble getting your first preference....

Appart from the fact that without doubt the Riflemen are spectacular soldiers in their own right, you will also be able to apply for all arms commando with 1 Rifles. My understanding is that once you've done that, you're exempt 'P' Coy (in keeping with other commandos) and could in theory apply for your jumps course.
I can see that within a few years, that all Rfn will be commando and wings qualed.
This is a really exciting move forward for the regt. Just a shame it's happened at the expense of so many historic regiments.

So the 'back door' route is best eh? You won't get on a jumps course. Only a few Marines who are in specialist roles get to do it.

Don't talk utter crap. It's hard enough getting Paras and Commandos through the respective courses. It's not the rifles role to be Para and Commando qualified, exempting your 5th Bn who work with Cdo. I bet you are a private soldier aren't you? No respectable NCO in your unit would talk such bollox

Posted: Tue Nov 24, 2009 11:39 am Author: wannabe-rifleman Location: County Durham That's a thing that's alway's baffled me as to why lads join a line infantry reg but then talk about wanting to do AACC or P-Coy. If I wanted to be a commando then i'd apply to join the marines, same as if i wanted to do p-coy and get my wings then i'd apply for the paras. I'm joining the rifles because i want to be a rifleman, if at some point i get posted to 1 rifles and have a chance to attempt AACC then i may very well have a go but i'm not joining the rifles with the intention of getting posted to 1 rifles because i want to be a commando.

Your understanding is incorrect. Whilst RM Commandos are exempt P Coy having already done CTCRM, soldiers who have completed AACC are not. I'm not sure as why the distinction. I believe the only other arduous course that obviates the need to attend P Coy before jumping and gaining your Parachute wings is SAS selection. Maybe one of the Paras here could correct and/or expand?

Well I can't to be honest. It'll enough of a job getting all of 1 RIFLES commando qualified and as it is the only battalion we have with the Commando Brigade, there's no need for the other battalions to undertake AACC. As for the wings, unless you have an airborne role it's highly unlikely that you'll do the course. As the Army already has an entire regiment of paratroopers, I can't really see the desire for any more. All times are GMT Page 1 of 4 P: 1, 2, 3, 4>:| |: http://www.arrse.co.uk/
