Yep sitting in the dark with candles waiting for the power to come back on. Like being in an air raid without the bombs

Are you talking about this from personal experience, or is that a quote from the 'My Little Pony, How to be a Socialist' quote book?

personal experience in my case.......sitting in the dark ,wearing my little red hooded coat with a candle cos there was no light and no heating as some very nice workers had gathered outside their place of work for a picnic....

I remember that too, especially having all of the spare blankets in the house being shared between my older brother and myself. Grim times.
Mind you, Nu Labour have grown a genration of youngsters who know just what mass unemployment looks like. I'll bet they will just be dying to vote in more of the same!

excrab_exstab:
Define on our knees? 3 million or 5 million unemployed. Closed hosiptal wards, unemployed nurses and rotting classrooms

What, like right now..?

Not gotten us involved in needless costly wars.
Define needless how about avoidable. In 82 it was Maggie who ignored the intelligence from the Americans about the Falklands

Kosovo, Macadonia, Serra Leone, Iraq, Afganhistan. Any I missed?
The list is endless.
Yea and so is peoples hatred of anything that isn't a rebrith of Thatcherism.

And so is some peoples blind hatred of someone who left office in 1990, 19 years ago.

At least she had some policies, even though they were unpopular, Cameron seems to have a new policy each week. Here is the man who is quoted as saying global warming would be good for tourism Smile

Is this because you received far more posts in favour of the Tories than you expected.

So use a politicians tactic as directed by central office and change the subject/ignore the question/give an answer to a different question.

You run the risk of getting all of the usual suspects lined up against you, and a few others, spouting largely uncorroborated crap at each other.

Have a nice day

Taffnp:
As there is a thread running asking what the Labour government has ever done for us, seemed only natural to ask what the Conservatives have done for us.

A few things which spring to mind

Taken away our free school milk

Introduced C1 training during the Falklands conflict

Had 3 million unemployed

Brought about the miners strike

Introduce Council tax

That milk was not free, somebody was paying for it. That comment highlights a lot that is wrong in the UK. Somebody stopping giving you something for nothing is not stealing, the "milk snatcher" mindset is wrong. Now I think that giving school milk was a good idea and should be reintroduced BTW.

I don't know what C1 training is.

They pretty much inherited the unemployed.

The miners strike was about power Wink

Council/poll tax was no more unfair than the rates.

Anyway, as a Nation we became a far wealthier one due to Thatcher's policies. Was it all good? No. Was it all bad? No.

Nothing in life is free however Milk Snatcher probably started the slippery slope of unhealthy chavs as that was all the healthy stuff half of them got.

As for the Poll tax , great if it wasn't imposed you you first

The Conservatives have learnt a very valuble lesson in the past years. Whenever they announced a policy Nu Labour have nicked it due to a lack of imagination on their part. Cameron is keepign his cards close to his chest. Have you noticed how Labour have not yet announced anything yet?

Sold off almost the entire MOD housing stock to a Japanese bank.

Saw some of the worst and most widespread rioting in the UK, ever.

Declared that encouraging the rich to get richer would cause wealth to 'trickle down' to the poor. It didn't.

Made billions upon billions of pounds in North Sea Oil revenues and from privatising public companies, with very little to show for it.

Espoused "Traditional Family Values", while the married PM was screwing a married MP.

Brought you the 'Young Conservatives' (if that isn't reason enough to despair, I don't know what is).

There was good and bad on both sides ...
Historical Ranking of Prime Ministers

If we just look at the rankings of those PMs who many of us lived under ...

4. Thacher
6. Blair
9. Wilson
12. Callaghan
13. Heath
15. Major

It would therefore seem that "The Wicked Witch" is regarded as the most successful PM of the last 40 years.

I'm glad all those academics and experts agree with me Laughing

I grew up in the North East during the 70s and 80s and the Tories were the best thing that ever happened to this country. Nissan in to Washington (factory opened by Maggie), breaking the NUM, no more powercuts, bins were emptied.

Unfortunately the area is still "stick a red rosette on the monkey and it will be elected".

Despite Labours policies (Labour won't spend in the north as the votes are guaranteed already) the north remains an industrial hub and has a strong financial services sector (All 4 of the big four are represented in Newcastle Leeds and Manchester (though Leeds and Manchester are NOT IN THE NORTH! grrr....)).

The Tories didnt close hospitals up here... all closures have been since Bliar.

As against Liebour who is selling the entire UK to foreigners…

Squandered Billions on creating a client state of people with no need to work,…

Has seen the end of social mobility in the UK…

Has seen the divide between the richest and poorest in the UK increase exponentially…

Passed legislation and changed the tax/benefits system so that actually makes it more financially attractive to be a single rather than married mother…

Brought us 'cool britannia' symbolized by drug addled glitterati and a celebrity culture of vacuous air heads…

I always remember what a 2* in the MOD told me years ago which was that if the military made a case to Mrs T she would listen. It was no good telling her that 'Regiment A cannot be cut back because it fought at Waterloo or the Alma'. If you could show her that the figures for recruiting were first class and the last couple of years training and tours had shown them to be a good unit then she would listen.
