the grades are based on your entire app start to finish from what fivetodo has told us, i have no idea on the points system but its gotta be based around: Attitude, trainability, appreance, intelligence, ability to do as your told on ADSC, team work and leadership skills, only a shot in the dark but its a pretty good guess i reckon Very Happy

bout 13.15 or sumthin sum1 said. need to obviously try and be faster of course Smile

As to grades. I dont know but as im going adsc tomorrow i have been scrounging for info. Iv read posts from chaps who got 11.15 run and 2 heaves yet got Grade B. Apparently fivetodo has said that the grades are unique to your chosen job. EG...A grade A for RAMC isnt same as A for INF

Good luck tomorrow, good job to chose my dad was an ex-Lifeguard so I know all about HCav.

Be wary on the pull-ups mate, they will expect you to first 'hang' on the bar till you do them, can fook you up if your used to expecting a little push of the ground for your 1st pull up Very Happy

Mind you I did poo on them as well but then again im going Int Corps, so the ADSC expect less of you physically.

Do you know if it's up to 13:15 mins for women joining the RA?
Or is it the same for everyone?

Don't think the time change between men and women they only change for junior entry. I think.

Officially its 13min 15sec, however as mentioned it you should be a lot faster. I was told that anything under 11min30sec is what you should be aiming for. But your run time looks good so no worries there.

Women usally have a longer time limit for the 1.5 mile run. But to be safe aim to 10.30 or under before you get to selection

I've been told by my recruiter that the best way to knock down minutes in the 1.5 mile run is to run it several times during the week. Is this true? Answer that I'm basically looking for is whether it works or not, because I've started to do this.
Thanks in advance.

Are you asking if practicing running, improves running time?

Not exactly, what I'm asking is that If I keep running the 1.5 mile daily, will I gradually improve and say, run it under 9 or 10 minutes, or should I do another method. It might seem a daft question but I've read numerous times through this forum that you shouldn't prepare the 1.5 run by running it constantly - if that makes sense, and that you should stick to Interval training or running 2 to 3 miles.

cardio work is the best to start off with m8. im saying this in my own experience, however everyones body and fitness is different. what iv been doing in the gym is...30 mins weights, 1.5 mile best effort on the treadmill with different inclines ranging from 1.0 to 7.0. then weights again for 30 mins. onto the bike for 30 mins cardio then back on the treadmill for 30 mins cardio, then weights for 10 mins. iv been doing this for the last week without giving my body a rest with days between for the last 7 days. iv knocked my run down from 11.45 to 10.30 in a week. ill keep doing this till sunday, then give my body a rest as im away to adsc on wednesday. but im expecting my runtime to be about 10 mins by then as my body has rested for 2 days and the sheer determination ill have on the day along with adrenyln. as i say this is working for me. dont just do 1.5 mile, train your body to cope with 3 miles no prob. oh and always try and keep your heart rate at 180 good luck fella

i have no reason to lie. i have nothing to prove to anyone on here and would not disregard the truth as i would mostly be lieing to myself. the way i see it, once in basic my body is going to go threw worse than this. IF i pass ADSC then this routine will continue untill i leave. as the saying is told. fail to prepare, prepare to fail.

I belive rest days are just as important as workouts, this workout above is a recipe for injury.. Especially for somebody new to training (not including potentialrecruit)

I overdone it by only doing 2 x 3 mile runs per day, and an hour on the punch bag. I strained my hamstring and it set me back over a month and degraded my fitness to the point I feel im back at the start.

Now I know I can plod along for 7 miles at a steady jog 5 days per week, but thats not what selection is about.

Last week I decided im just going to do my 3 mile route. First mile is a warm up, last 2 are fartlek between lamposts. I am absolutly raped by the end, and feel sick as fcuk. Eventually the hard legs will get longer, and ill get faster.

My theory is, if im absolutly sick as fcuk at the end, ive done good!

Selection is your hurdle, keep it simple and train for that. When you pass, your deemed fit enough by the army to be a recruit. They will sort you out from there and train you for what lies ahead.
