And that's despite getting lots of letters and not getting shot.

Bottom Line: Regtl Entry (and your Regtl Conduct Sheet stays with you forever) = No LS&GC (subject to Appeal).
Some top blokes have it and some equally top blokes haven't - it doesn't change them. I'd go on the pish with all of 'em regardless of ribbons and silverware.

I am woundering if any of you out there have had a stupid charge which has effected your application for the LS and GC, No rape or GBH please......
if it was in basic training then the regt entry would not have carried forward to trained soldier service...something not right in your dit?

I was never eligible due rank and service time but am personally aware of a family member who took 25 years to get his, no entries on his RCS but a run in with an OC whilst a Cpl and the jungle drums beat.........
Can anyone beat 25 years.
He did manage to serve a total of 37 years, Reg and TA before being forced to 'retire' at 55

Not strictly true, hi-jinx in basic can result in action be carried to your first unit. i.e getting into mischief on your final night results in your first reporting unit dealing with the fall out.

And even if it was counted, surely the delay in qualifying would only be a matter of a few weeks?

19Years old - p1ssed and stupid = regi entry = 14 days SUS.
Couldn't be fecked writing a begging letter for another bit of tin that had been IMO devalued while I wasn't looking. When I joined it was 18 years of not getting caught and then after just 15 I was supposed to beg for one?
If there had been a cash value to the pension maybe I might have bothered but as it is I didn't think it was worth it.

Not quite. I witnessed a one-star pinning one of them on a rather puzzled SNCO a few years ago. It had come as a total surprise to the bloke as he had copped a Regimental Entry some years before. When he finally reached the bar (we'd been waiting half an hour by that time) he was grinning like a Cheshire Cat. After a few phone calls, he discovered that his mate (now retired) who worked in the Bn Orderly Room had *ahem* intercepted the paperwork immediately after the award of punishment and filed it in the shredder.

Which only goes to show that it's not what you know, but who you know. I once lost (or thought I'd lost) my ID card. Horror of horrors, automatic charge and fine loomed up. But, no, the squadron clerk was angling for a retrade and just put it down as "replacement required, original destroyed". Found the original later in one of my combat jackets so had an "insurance" in case there was no such friendly clerk available.
As a recipient of the LS&GC after 18 years service, I can confirm that a night (or two, or three) in the nick doesn't disqualify you. I got stuck in on a Good
Friday for being, shall we say, a few sheets to the wind, and ended up being looked after until the following Tuesday. OC thought I'd been punished enough for spending 4 nights in nick so just gave me a bollocking, or admonishment as he put it. No Regtl entry, no fine, medal given.

I did appeal towards to the end my service the Chief Clerk was impressed with my submission..didn't get the medal though.
However, I do know one of our number who was charged with an ND in Northern Ireland he appealed and got his LSCG.
Not ashamed of my actions these things happen.

Regt'l Entry 1: Found asleep outside block after falling off (nicked) Provo Sgt's bicycle (4 am and anything outside the guardroom's fair play). Got me 14 days ROPs.
Regt'l Entry 2: 21 Days SUS for being lifted by the Feds for doing a 'Naked Marketplace) downtown. Probably would have been laughed away (it was a very cold night) if I hadn't been celebrating finishing 14 days ROPs for lifting the Prov's bike.
AGAI 67 Major Sanction: No names or indications of time and place but it involved my calling a Lt Col a "right fooking twunt" who I "wouldn't follow out of curiosity" before projectile vomiting half a gallon of vino aggro over him.
Personally I think all the above show character and that if you read between the lines it's pretty obvious that I am in fact an all round good egg and snappy dresser.
