The Army Rumour Service
Forum Index Just TA

1. It's one Army, but I'm told that a separate board is wanted.
2. Regulars, don't bait the TA; we've heard it all before and it's boring.

What Now?

Post Posted: Wed Jun 24, 2009 3:57 pm

As the world knows 33 sig reg is having cut backs or whatever it is... my unit is definitely getting closed and they have basically frozen everything which means no trade training....

So, I have done CMSR and thats it... I am new to this TA Malarky and frankly quite cheesed off that I have waited so long to get CMSR done and now its done they're closing!!

Anyways, does anyone know of any units in the north west looking for recruits fresh out of CMSR??

I am near liverpool, manchester, chester, warrington.... anywhere near there.

I was told I could go and be a driver or Medic or Mechanic over at G Sqn which Is local enough and I fancy any 1 of them 3 trades, however I called them up and the guy I spoke to had a shi**y attitude and told me there not interested unless I am already Trade Trained.

I would like to avoid the engineers as thats my civvy job...

Cheers MSR, thats actually very helpful theres 2 trades there that look superb, what I am wondering is this... are these 2 of them jobs that look really good but its highly unlikely I can do it as its what everyone wants to do or do you think these are jobs I could genuinely do?

GUNNER Obs Post as part of a Fire Support Team. Part of a tight knit six man team, working on the front line embedded in a manoeuvre unit. Trained to plan and coordinate fire from artillery, naval guns and mortars as well as control attack helicopters and fast jets. Kit includes image intensifiers, thermal sights, MSTAR man portable radar and UHF/VHF/HF radios. There are FSTs in all AS90 and Lt Gun Regts (inc Para and Cdo).

GUNNER Special Observer inserted behind enemy lines, by foot, boat, helicopter or vehicle. Special Observers operate in small 6 man teams, to provide intelligence and cue fires from artillery, aircraft or attack helicopters using encrypted communications. 4/73 Bty RA (5 Regt RA) and HAC is the TA equivalent.

Seeing as I lead the team that does this: yes.

The 'special' role (TA) belongs to the HAC.

Yes open to all. We have this: Kit includes image intensifiers, thermal sights, MSTAR man portable radar and UHF/VHF/HF radios.

Honorable Artillery Company, based in London, so not in the NW Sad

Yes open to all. We have this: Kit includes image intensifiers, thermal sights, MSTAR man portable radar and UHF/VHF/HF radios. Disclaimer: we don't do Fast Air, Naval Gunfire Spt or AH, but there are FTRS opportunities for those who do.

I thought 33 was being scaled down to a Sqn in Liverpool, to be a Sqn of 32 in Glasgow?
